清道光六年（公元1826年），客绅蔡世望等倡导绅商捐资重建火宫殿，始建古戏台。旧时，凡失火商家，要杀猪宰羊来火神庙前谢罪、祭祀，并请戏班唱大戏三天，引来观众上千，热闹非凡，成为长沙旧时一大文化景观。1938年，“文夕大火”毁于一旦。2006年，火宫殿有限公司在原址上重修，基本恢复原样。戏台两侧对联：“象以虚成，具几多世态人情，好向虚中求实；味于苦出，看千古忠臣孝子，都从苦里回甘”，横匾为“一曲薰风”。“薰风”为二、三月东南风，寓意古戏台演出的戏剧，无论是演员的演技还是教育意义，有如沐浴春风。楹联由清末大书法家何绍基为火宫殿撰写的。戏台上方还悬挂一块“德威烜赫”牌匾，这是1853年湖南巡抚胡林冀向咸丰皇帝奏章，清文宗皇帝（咸丰皇帝）爱新觉罗.奕詝亲为火宫殿御书，以彰显火神的功德无量，和火宫殿不同凡响的地位。

In the sixth year of Dao Guang period of Qing Dynasty(A.D.1826), Cai Shiwang advocated other gentry-merchants to reestablish Huogongdian and build the archaic stage. At that time, merchants who suffered from fire had to apologize for their faults by sacrificing pigs or sheep and performing traditional opera for three days in Temple of Fire, attracting thousands of audiences and becoming one of the greatest cultural landscapes in ancient Changsha. However, in 1938, a fire destroyed the whole Changsha, including Huogongdian. In 2006, Huogongdian was restored right in its original location. In ancient stage, there is a couplet written by He Shaoji, a calligrapher in the late Qing Dynasty. It writes: Made out of imaginations, how much vicissitude of life in plays, for seeking truth from the unreality. Suffered from great pains, how many loyal and filial through ages, all gaining sweet after much misery. The streamer is ‘a warm southerly breeze’, with an implication that plays performed in archaic stage, in terms of both acting and meaning, are so refreshing that make people like bath in the spring breeze. Above the stage is a plaque saying “eminence and dignity”. In 1853, Hu Linyi, who govern Hunan at that time, submitted a memorial to the throne to ask for an inscription, so Emperor Xianfeng(with Wenzong as his temple name) wrote it for Huogongdian, showing the boundless merits of Zhurong, a Chinese god of fire, and the conspicuous status of Huogogndian.

火宫殿古戏台每天晚上6：00—7：30都上演湖南地方戏。重大节日还会上演以民俗为主的文艺演出，烘托节日气氛，丰富市民生活，畅享湖湘民风民俗，深受市民朋友的喜爱。
